Description

Line interruption in sensor circuit

Effects on the driving operation

Unable to detect temperature, possible consequences:

The temperature-related deactivation of the retarder is restricted.

Possible causes

Connector unplugged, too high contact resistance between plug-in contacts or break in the sensor cabling.

Temperature sensor connector T-CONV

Pin assignment for retarder oil temperature sensor
1 = supply connection
2 = ground connection

ATTENTION:
The pin assignment of the temperature sensors for transmission oil and retarder oil is vice versa in the circuit diagram since the circuit diagram is laid out in preparation for the future combined temperature / oil level sensors for the transmission oil temperature.

Troubleshooting

  1. Check the plug connections and cables.
    (Instruction: see "Related Topics")
  2. Disconnect the plug connection at the temperature sensor.
    Check that the sensor is internally intact:
    When measuring the resistance, please observe the dependence on the temperature.
    Simultaneously to the resistance measurement, the sensor temperature has to be measured, too, or estimated with utmost accuracy. Read the nominal resistance indicated in the temperature curve below and compare it to the measured or estimated temperature.
    Measure the resistance between pin 1 and pin 2.
    The sensor works correctly if the measured resistance deviates from the nominal resistance by not more than ± -50 ohms.
    No resistance – no connection – must be measurable between the pins and the sensor housing; the resistance is infinitely large.
  3. Replace the control unit.
  4. If none of the above measures brings any improvement, please contact the Voith Turbo headquarters.

Characteristic

Final function check

If the defective component cannot be clearly identified, you should try to reproduce the fault:

  • Reinstall the component in the vehicle.
  • Test the function.

After the fault has been eliminated, the following steps have to be carried out:

  • Conduct a test drive with function check.
  • Read out the fault memory.
  • Check the transmission for leaks.
  • Perform a final visual inspection.

These steps are necessary to ensure the entire vehicle functions.
