Using the Trigger in the Recorder

The Trigger function of the Recorder is used to reduce the amount of measuring data and/or to record only specific events. For this purpose, a so-called trigger list with different trigger objects can be created. If you activate the Trigger function in the Recorder with the Trg button in the toolbar, the measuring data recording will be started, as soon as a trigger object has been initiated. The Trigger function can also be switched on or off at any time during measuring data recording.

How to open the trigger list:

Click Recorder > Trigger Properties... menu item in the Recorder.

The trigger objects are displayed with a preceding yellow folder symbol in the list. The trigger conditions are shown below with a preceding green cube. You can edit both the trigger objects and the trigger conditions by double-clicking the corresponding entry.

How to create a new trigger object:

Click the New Trigger button. The new trigger object is added to the trigger list automatically.

How to delete a trigger object:

Select the trigger object to be deleted from the trigger list and click Delete.

How to create a new trigger condition:

Select the trigger object to be defined for a new condition and click the Add Condition button.

How to delete a trigger condition:

Select the condition to be deleted and click Delete.

How to set the trigger properties:

To edit the trigger properties, double-click either the trigger object or select the trigger object and click the Properties button. The Trigger Properties window appears.

Trigger properties:

Property Description
Trigger Text Assign any name to the trigger object.
Trigger Action  Functions initiated by the trigger object.
Record When the trigger is initiated, the recording will be started in the Recorder. (default value)
Play Alert Sound An alert sound will be provided if acoustic warnings have been activated in the DIANA5 Setup.
Show Message A message is displayed that the trigger was initiated.
Send SMS This function is not available in DIANA5 Lite.
Show Panel Select a panel to be switched to when the trigger has been initiated.

All trigger actions will only be performed if the Trigger function has been activated in the Recorder.

Once you have set the trigger properties, exit the window using the OK button. If you exit the window using the Cancel button, the settings will not be saved.

How to set the trigger conditions:

All trigger conditions must be met to initiate a trigger object. To edit the trigger conditions, select a trigger condition from the trigger list and click the Properties button.

Select any signal to be triggered to in the Signal field. Then select a condition in the Condition field and a corresponding number in the Value field.

Example:

Signal Condition Value
ECU signal: Engine speed

<= 500

The condition in the example is met if the engine speed is less or equal 500.

If you assign several conditions to a trigger object, all conditions must have been met to initiate the trigger object. For example, if you want to start recording if the engine speed or the turbine speed has reached a specific value, create two different trigger objects.  If you want to start recording only if both speeds have reached a specific value, define two conditions for one trigger object.

General trigger properties:

To be able to record trigger events even shortly before or shortly after a trigger event, the required time can be set under "Pre Trigger Time" and "Post Trigger Time".
