Description

Short-circuit or low-resistance connection to supply voltage at the positive sensor terminal.

Effects on the driving operation

Unable to detect temperature, possible consequences:

Hard shifts with transmission oil cold.

The temperature-related deactivation of the retarder is restricted.

Possible causes

Short-circuit in connector, cabling or sensor.

Temperature sensor connector T-SUMP E300.1

Pin assignment for combined oil level / temperature sensor

1 top = S-GND = oil level sensor ground
2 top = OIL-LVL = oil level signal

1 bottom = S-GND = temperature sensor ground
2 bottom = T-SUMP = temperature signal

Troubleshooting

  1. Check plug connections and cables.
    (Instruction: see "Related Topics")
  2. Disconnect the plug connection at the temperature sensor.
Check that the sensor is internally intact:
When measuring the resistance, please observe the dependence on the temperature.
Simultaneously to the resistance measurement, the sensor temperature has to be measured, too, or estimated with utmost accuracy. Compare the nominal resistance as indicated in the temperature curve below and compare it to the measured or estimated temperature.
Measure the resistance between pin 1 and pin2 (bottom).
The sensor works correctly if the measured resistance deviates from the nominal resistance by not more than ± 50 ohms.
No resistance – no connection – must be measurable between the pins and the sensor housing; the resistance is infinitely large.
  3. Replace the control unit.
  4. If none of the above measures brings any improvement, please contact the Voith Turbo headquarters.

Characteristic

Final function check

If the defective component cannot be clearly identified, you should try to reproduce the fault:

  • Reinstall the component in the vehicle.
  • Test the function.

After the fault has been eliminated, the following steps have to be carried out:

  • Conduct a test drive with function check.
  • Read out the fault memory.
  • Check the transmission for leaks.
  • Perform a final visual inspection.

These steps are necessary to ensure the entire vehicle functions.
