Using the Recorder

The Recorder is used to record and play back measuring files. To be able to perform measurements with the Recorder, you must connect your PC to a Voith control unit and turn the ignition on. For further information on connecting the vehicle to your PC, please refer to: K-line interfaces.

Double-click the Recorder symbol on your Windows desktop . Alternatively, you can click the menu item: Start > Voith Turbo > Recorder in Windows.

The measuring data is displayed with virtual measuring instruments in the Recorder. The virtual instruments displayed are defined by the measuring file template that is used. All instruments displayed simultaneously form a so-called Panel. A measuring file template may include several panels that you can switch between during recording. All signals that have been defined in the measuring file template are always recorded. This is done regardless of whether the panel is currently displayed or not.

You have two options of opening a measuring file template.

Click this button in the toolbar: Record: . The Recorder automatically opens an appropriate measuring file template for the control unit. Alternatively, click the menu item: File > New. In both cases, communication with a connected control unit is established and the measuring data is displayed in the virtual measuring instruments. However, this data is not yet recorded. The Recorder is in the standby mode.

Click the File > Open menu item. The dialog box "Open" appears. Several measuring file templates are displayed. Select a measuring file template and exit the dialog box with Open. If the selected measuring file template is not suitable for the connected control unit, a corresponding error message will be displayed.

The currently selected panel is displayed with "FP1" in the toolbar. With the two small buttons next to it you can switch between the different panels. You can also call up the first 9 panels directly using the numeric keypad. As an alternative, the "Options" menu provides the commands for: Next Panel, Previous Panel and Select Panel. The measuring template file for DIWA.5 transmissions includes 3 panels.

You can also start the Recorder automatically by selecting a measuring file template in the Windows Explorer.

You must start the Record function to record measuring data. To do so, click the Record button in the toolbar: . Alternatively, click the menu item: Recorder > Record. The Recorder will then change from the standby mode to the recording mode. If you want to pause the measurement, click the Stop button . You can use the Record button to go back to the standby mode at any time. Once you have performed the measurement, you can save the recording. To do so, click File > Save as... in the menu. The dialog box "Save as" appears. Navigate to the required directory, assign the required file name and exit the dialog using the Save button. You can use this file for evaluating the measuring data in the Voith Analyzer.

Open Opens a dialog box for selecting a measuring file template. Ctrl+O

Connect via Network Establishes a network connection to a DIANA5 server.

Close Stops communication with a control unit and exits the active measuring file template.

Save Saves the current measuring data recording in the current measuring file.

Save as... Saves the current measuring data recording in a new file.

Send as e-mail The current measuring data recording is sent to an e-mail address. The address can be entered in the Program Properties.

Program Properties... Opens the DIANA5 Setup.

XXX The measuring file templates used last are offered for opening.

Exit Exits the Recorder.

Delete Measurement Deletes the current measuring data recording.

Next Panel Switches the display of the virtual measuring instruments to the next panel. +

Previous Panel Switches the display of the virtual measuring instruments back to the previous panel. -

Select Panel Opens a list of all panels of the currently active measuring file template. You can select any panel. F

Insert Marker Inserts a marker in the measuring file while the measuring data is being recorded. You can enter any name for the marker. Space

Marker List Displays a list of all markers used including relative time indications.

Event List This function is not available in this version.

Recording Details Displays the recording details of the currently active measuring file. This includes the identification data and the fault memory. In addition, you can store your user data and any comments in the measuring file.

Start ECUViewer Opens the ECUViewer window. For further information, please see: ECUViewer.

Timer Starts a timer.

Open Template in TED This function is not available in this version.

Displays the current recording time.

Brings the Recorder to the Record mode. R

Activates the trigger-dependent recording of measuring data. For further information, please see: Trigger functions. T

Displays the currently active Recorder mode.

Displays the currently active panel. You can use the up/down buttons to switch between the different panels.

Displays the ECU device status. Lights up green if communication with a control unit is active, otherwise it lights up red.

The current operating mode is always displayed in the Recorder status display. The table below shows all possible modes:

Display Description

Stop The Recorder has been stopped. The measuring values are not updated.

Pause The playback of the measuring file has been paused.

Play The measuring file is played back.

Standby The measuring data displayed is updated continuously. However, no recording is active.

No Trg The trigger is switched on. Recording will be started, as soon as the trigger condition has been met.

Record The measuring data displayed is recorded or a measurement that has been stopped will be continued.
