The Boot / Flash Loader

The Flash Loader is software in the transmission controller that is exclusively responsible for loading function software and datasets. This makes it the basic requirement for putting a transmission controller into operation.
There are Flash Loaders for the various controllers and protocols (KWP/UDS). There are also various Loaders for diverse OEMs as the UDS baud rates of the OEMs are not standardized.

The designation for the Flash Loader consists of the associated hardware, the designator -L- for Loader, the version ID and the ".hex" file extension.

Example:
E300.1-L4.3.1.0.hex

There are also a few older Loaders that are not yet subject to this naming convention:

  • F04.04.07-U.hex
  • F05.05.03-U.hex
  • F05.08.00-U.hex
  • F05.08.01-U.hex

Which Loader is required for which controller is always stored in the dataset. It is not possible to assign a specific Loader to specific software.

When loading a dataset, ALADIN 6 always checks that the associated Loader is present in the controller. The Flash Loader is automatically loaded if necessary.
