Interfaces for connecting between the vehicle and the PC

An interface is required for connecting the vehicle to the PC (ALADIN). The interfaces available are USB, Bluetooth, WLAN and RS232.

Please note that the various VOITH products and controllers use different communication protocols. Therefore not every interface can be used for each controller.

How to put your interface in operation:

Serial RS 232 (COM) interface

RS232 RS232

Turn off your PC. Connect the serial RS232 connector (image to the left) to the serial port on your PC. Connect the diagnostic connector (2nd image from the right) to the diagnostic port in the vehicle. Depending on the vehicle, you may need an adapter connector. After installation, ALADIN is always configured to using the serial interface on COM port 1. The diagnosis of an E200 ECU is switched off as standard.

If your PC does not have a serial interface, use an alternative Voith interface. The use of PCMCIA extension cards or USB-to-serial adapters is not recommended.

The COM port used can be changed in the ALADIN settings. Use the "Settings" button to access the ALADIN settings directly in the ALADIN main window. On the "Communication" tab you can set the Com port in the "Interface" area.

RS232

USB interface (Samtec HS Light)

You must first install a driver for the USB interface. The interfaces can be found either on the ALADIN CD or in the Voith Intranet.
From the CD, please install:

"CD:\Voith Samtec USB interface Driver\SetupSamDiaX_6.2.5.0.exe".

After installation, connect the interface to your PC.
Windows detects the interface automatically and indicates whether the installation has functioned.

Samtec

You can now activate its use in the ALADIN settings. Use the "Settings" button to access the ALADIN settings directly in the ALADIN main window. On the "Communication" tab you can activate the interface in the "Interface" area.

BlueCom interface

Installation example of BlueCom with Microsoft Bluetooth Stack:

The BlueCom interface must be registered on the PC once (pairing).

  • Make sure that the Bluetooth module of the PC is switched on.
  • Connect the BlueCom interface to the transmission controller.
  • Switch on the vehicle ignition.

The UBat LED (supply voltage) on the BlueCom interface should light up. The rest of the steps depend on the Bluetooth driver that is used.

  • Right-click the Bluetooth icon in the system tray (bottom right, next to the clock).
  • Select the "Add device" function.

The BlueCom is displayed here. Select the device and confirm with Continue.

BlueCom

Now enter the coupling code. This is always "diwa".

BlueCom

A Com port has been assigned to the BlueCom during the installation. This still needs to be read. To do so, navigate to "Devices and Printers" in the system control panel. The link for this is offered in the last installation window.

Right-click on the BlueCom and select Properties.

BlueCom

The assigned Com port is displayed on the Hardware tab.

BlueCom

You can now activate its use in the ALADIN settings. Use the "Settings" button to access the ALADIN settings directly in the ALADIN main window. On the "Communication" tab you can activate the interface in the "Interface" area and enter the Com port.

BlueCom

Installation example of BlueCom via USB:

  • Connect the BlueCom interface to the transmission controller.
  • Connect the BlueCom interface to the PC with a USB cable.
  • Switch on the vehicle ignition.

The UBat LED (supply voltage) on the BlueCom interface should light up. Windows installs the BlueCom as "FT232R USB UART".
The BlueCom has been assigned a Com port during the installation. This still needs to be read. To do so, navigate to "Devices and Printers" in the system control panel.

Right-click on the FT232R USB UART and select Properties.

SmartCase interface

Installation example of SmartCase via WLAN:

First establish the WLAN connection.

  • Make sure that the WLAN module of the PC is switched on.
  • Connect the SmartCase interface to the transmission controller.
  • Switch on the vehicle ignition.

In the factory settings of SmartCase a WLAN Hotspot is activated in SmartCase, which appears with the name "SmartCase" when displaying the available WLAN networks on the PC.

SmartCase-WLAN

To establish a connection with SmartCase, you must use the password "12345678". If the "Connect automatically" function is activated in Windows, your PC automatically connects with SmartCase when it is switched on.
You can now activate its use in the ALADIN settings. Use the "Settings" button to access the ALADIN settings directly in the ALADIN main window. On the "Communication" tab you can activate the SmartCase in the "Interface" area. In the factory settings of ALADIN the UDS protocol is deactivated. To use it on DIWA.6 vehicles, also activate the UDS protocol in ALADIN.

BlueCom

Installation example of SmartCase via USB:

First establish the USB connection.

  • Connect the SmartCase interface to the transmission controller.
  • Switch on the vehicle ignition - SmartCase needs a few seconds to start.
  • Connect the SmartCase interface to the PC via USB.

SmartCase is displayed as "RNDIS/Ethernet Gadget" in the Windows system panel "Devices and Printers".
