Communication problems guide

What problem has occurred:

This PC has generally no communication with any transmission control unit.

This PC has no communication with this transmission control unit, otherwise communication is okay.

Communication has malfunctioned after a new function software or a new dataset has been loaded.

If the problem still exists!

This PC has generally no communication with any transmission control unit.

Please check:

  • Has the diagnostic cable between the vehicle and the PC been connected?
  • Has the ignition been turned on?
  • Is the diagnostic cable between vehicle, K-line interface and PC okay or is there a cable break?
  • When using the K-line interface with a serial interface:
  • Has the interface been connected to the RS232 COM1 port? Some PCs have several RS232 interfaces. The COM port can be entered in the ALADIN settings.
  • Does your PC have Bluetooth? When using the serial interface, please turn all Bluetooth receivers OFF.
  • Is the RS232 port available? The device manager of the Windows control panel displays the interfaces that are available on the PC.
  • Is the RS232 (COM) port used by another program? For example, by a connected modem or mobile phone.
  • Are you using the Voith DIANA software? If you are using DIANA and have no communication problems there, please check whether you have exited DIANA. ALADIN and DIANA cannot be used simultaneously. If you are not sure, restart your PC.
  • When using the K-line interface with a USB interface:
  • Has the interface been connected to the USB interface and have the drivers been installed? An existing USB connection between interface and PC is indicated if the "USB" LED on the interface flashes / lights up permanently. Once the drivers have been installed, the samtec HS-light interface will be displayed in the Device Manager of the Windows control panel.
  • Are you using the Voith DIANA software? If you are using DIANA and have no communication problems there, please check whether you have exited DIANA. ALADIN and DIANA cannot be used simultaneously. If you are not sure, restart your PC.
  • Are you using both interfaces? If you have connected both interfaces (USB + RS232) to your PC, ALADIN will always attempt to use the USB interface. In this case, you cannot establish a connection via the RS232 interface.
  • Check the Power Management settings. Please refer to: Power Management settings in Windows XP.
  • ALADIN Setup: For further information, please see: Timing setup.
  • Has the diagnostic mode been set to: 0x86?
  • Has the Baud rate identifier been set to 0x01?

This PC has no communication with this transmission control unit, otherwise communication is okay.

Please check:

  • Has the diagnostic cable been connected to the vehicle?
  • Has the diagnostic cable been connected to the PC?
  • Has the ignition been turned on?
  • Switch your PC off and on, then try again.
  • Is the diagnostic cable between vehicle, K-line interface and PC okay or is there a cable break?

  • ALADIN Setup: For further information, please see: Timing setup.
    • Has the communication speed been set to 10400 Baud?
  • Communication via the diagnostic port might not be stable in individual vehicles. In this case, try to connect your PC directly to the transmission control unit. Use the Voith E300 / E300.1 intermediate adapter for this purpose. For further information on the adapter, please see: Adapter cable.

Communication has malfunctioned after a new function software or a new dataset has been loaded.

As a rule, this problem only occurs if software or a dataset has been loaded that is not compatible with the transmission control unit used, or if the loaded HEX files are damaged, for example, if the transmission of the HEX files by e-mail was incomplete or faulty.

In this case, you must perform a forced download. For further information, please see: Forced download.

If the problem still exists!

If there is still no communication between ALADIN and a transmission control unit, please contact the Voith customer service: Customer service index.

Before contacting the customer service, please make sure you have the check list information on hand. Part of this information will be requested: Check list.
