Description

The safety computer requests the limp-home mode alone without the function computer detecting a malfunction of the gear range selector.

Effects on the driving operation

The transmission first shifts to neutral. Driving can only be resumed if the limp-home switch is applied. To this end, set the limp-home switch into the neutral position and then select the desired gear.

Possible causes

The safety computer alone does not receive valid information from the gear range selector. The function computer, however, still receives information from the gear range selector.

This may be caused by an internal defect of the control unit.

Place of action

No description available.

If problem occurs repeatedly, replace the control unit.

Setting conditions of the event

No description available.

Test conditions of the event

No description available.

Final function check

If the defective component cannot be clearly identified, you should try to reproduce the fault:

  • Reinstall the component in the vehicle.
  • Test the function.

After the fault has been eliminated, the following steps have to be carried out:

  • Conduct a test drive with function check.
  • Read out the fault memory.
  • Check the transmission for leaks.
  • Perform a final visual inspection.

These steps are necessary to ensure the entire vehicle functions.
