Power Management settings under Windows XP

If the Power Management on your PC is not set to 'Standard PC', ALADIN might not be able to communicate with the transmission control unit using the serial interface (RS232 / COM1). The reason is that Windows turns the serial interface off to save energy. This problem may occur if only the serial K-line interface (serial level converter) is used. This problem also frequently occurs after an update from Windows XP Service Pack SP1 to Service Pack SP2. Only in this case, the Power Management settings must be corrected manually.

You need the corresponding PC access rights to make changes in the Control Panel. For questions concerning your PC access rights, please contact your system administrator (PC responsible).

The Power Management settings are done in the Device Manager of the Control Panel. Click: Start > Setup > Control Panel. The Control Panel opens.

	1. Select the option: "System" in the Control Panel.

	2. Select the "Device Manager" in the Hardware tab.

	3. Select the option "Computer" in the Device Manager. The current setting is displayed. This setting must be "Standard PC".

Navigate to the Device Manager in step 3. Right-click the option: "Update drivers". The Hardware Update Wizard opens.

	4. Select "Install from a list or specific location". Click: "Next".

	5. Select "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install." Click: "Next".

	6. Select "Standard PC". Click: "Next".

	7. Select "Finish".
