Directories and file updates

ALADIN needs a number of different files in order to operate correctly. These files are basically held in 3 storage locations.

  • Program Files (x86) - All program files installed with ALADIN are located here. The majority of users do not have write rights in this folder. Changes to the installation path can cause ALADIN to stop working and should only be carried out if directly instructed to do so. The path is:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\VOITHDiagnosticTools\Voith ALADIN 6
    If you obtained your ALADIN via Voith IT, the important Hex and VDD files can be found in the "Resources\Control" subfolder.
  • Program Data - All application data that must be available for all users on the computer are located here. For example, ALADIN can be expanded with new EventTab files or EOL configurations in this folder without a program update being required. The path is:
    C:\Program Data(x86)\VOITHDiagnosticTools\Voith ALADIN 6
  • User Data - Your personal ALADIN files are located in this folder. This includes the ECU files, Flash Container and templates used.


File updates in program data

For some functions ALADIN needs additional files that contain information about the controller to be diagnosed. The most important are:

  • EOL Configuration - List of all EOL groups and parameters that can be configured.
  • EventTab - For each controller software version there is an EventTab with all possible event memory entries.
  • EventINI - List with all error texts and handling instructions.
  • VDD - Assignment file so that a dataset can be read.

These file resources are already created in the Program Files (x86) folder during the ALADIN installation. If your ALADIN version is significantly older than the controller version used, these resources are no longer up to date.
You can provide ALADIN with newer resources in the Program Data folder. To do so, simply copy the new resources into the corresponding folders:


  • C:\Program Data(x86)\VOITHDiagnosticTools\Voith ALADIN 6\Resources\Control\EOL - for new EOL configurations
  • C:\Program Data(x86)\VOITHDiagnosticTools\Voith ALADIN 6\Resources\Control\EventTab - for new Event tabs
  • C:\Program Data(x86)\VOITHDiagnosticTools\Voith ALADIN 6\Resources\Control\Event - for EventINI files
  • C:\Program Data(x86)\VOITHDiagnosticTools\Voith ALADIN 6\Resources\Control\VDD - for new VDD files


Please note that the resources in Program Data always have priority over the resources installed in Program Files (x86). This also applies if you perform an ALADIN update.


Libraries - Documents

ALADIN automatically creates a new folder for ALADIN 6 in the Libraries - Documents area. The settings, ECU files, templates, etc. are stored here. The path is:
C:\Users\hdh_rthe\Documents\VoithDiagnosticTools\Voith ALADIN 6

In this directory you will find the following subfolders:

  • Cod - Here, ALADIN automatically stores the Datensatz.cod files that you use.
  • codTable - Here, ALADIN automatically stores the assignment tables that you use.
  • Dataset - Here, ALADIN automatically stores the Datensätze.hex that you use.
  • FlashContainer - Here, ALADIN automatically stores the AFC files that you use.
  • Loader - Here, ALADIN automatically stores the Loader.hex files that you use.
  • Office Exports - Exports in Office Format, e.g. error lists or ECU file data export to Excel.
  • ServiceTemplates - Templates that you can create when working with the service data.
  • Software - Here, ALADIN automatically stores the Software.hex files that you use.
  • TIMTemplates - Templates that you can create when working with the TIM.
  • Upload - The ECU files are stored here.
